About Humanitarian Need International

Humanitarian Need International (HNI) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to supporting women and children in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) through food, shelter, education, job training, and medical services.

Our Mission

To inspire, support, and nurture vulnerable women and children in the DRC by providing essential services and sustainable development opportunities.

Our Vision

Congolese women and children living out their full potential as compassionate and productive members of society through education and community empowerment.

Our Story

Founded in 2005 by Mombo Kalumbula and her father, Reverend Kalumbula, HNI was born from a deep commitment to the women and children of Mombo's home village. Today, we serve the village of Kitindi, where 98% of residents are women and children and the closest hospital is 188 miles away. While a small regional clinic sits just a mile from the village, its services are severely limited.

HNI bridges this gap by providing essential care that would otherwise be inaccessible: clean water, school uniforms, daily meals, hygiene products, and educational support. Our services address the physical, mental, social, and spiritual needs of orphans, vulnerable children, and their guardians.
